I am working on a map art design but can not get the map to cooperate. I have set up a 128X128 border but no mater where i start mapping it will not center. i have made many maps and usually they work if you start at the center of the area you want to map, but for some reason in this area it always defaults to the lower left corner (south/west). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, AutoCader

its best to open the map before starting an outline. the maps will not adjust to your location. If you ever find yourself online with admin Mark or Owner Meehan they'd be kind enough to move your outline with WorldEdit but you may have to move it otherwise. Hope it gets worked out ok, I love map art and collect them on the server. Would love to see yours when its finished.

They're essentially pre-defined areas, starting and ending on chunk borders. Mapping/opening a map at any location will create a map of a (pre-defined) 16x16 chunk area which the chunk you're standing in is part of. It always being the lower left corner in your case is really just a coincidence. I think it might have worked differently in the past (many years ago) though. Anyway, what kitty said. Just wanted to clarify the mechanic a bit.

We have finished our major clearing of the area where I am trying to do my map art, but after many failed attempts, I still can not get a decent map. Would worldedit work for this or will I have to start over somewhere else?

World edit would only help in clearing land not with map placement. Like kitty mentioned earlier you should start by creating a map and then clear the area not the other way around. If you already made a map, find and mark the corners and that will tell you what area you should have cleared.

Thanks, I am doing that now. I should have done that to begin with, would have saved me a lot of time. Live and learn lol.
