Picture this though - I walk around the shopping district and see what is selling, lets say, wood for example. I go out to /wild and I chop down a few trees and reverse shop a few diamonds out of the shop owner. The shop owner gains nothing in that transaction, and then there is no reason to open a shop in the first place. Reverse shopping is like going into a grocery store with a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread, putting them back and taking money from the cash register. That is in fact, illegal. If an owner wishes to purchase something, the sign will state: "Buying Wood, 1D/2 stacks" and that is acceptable. Reverse shopping is just theft. My vote is no reverse shopping.

Having second thoughts about what you purchased at someones shop is one thing but reverse shopping is something else.
When someone buys a stack of steak for 2 diamonds and someone else other than the plot owner or co-owner takes those 2 diamonds and restocks the steak they just reverse shopped because those diamonds were meant for the owner(s) of the plot; the people selling that product.
Reverse shopping can also happen when someone is looking to buy items, (like name tags) from players for a price and someone takes any nametags that are in the chest and replaces it with a diamond (1d/per name tag is still the standard price right?)
I've said in the past to some players that as soon as you leave the boundary of the shop your purchase is final. I'm not the district owner anymore, but that would be my ruling.

(I'm unable to edit my previous post for some reason)
Reverse shopping is just a fancy way to steal, which is against server rules.
If you are a shop owner and don't like being victim to these kinds of thieves I recommend you make a mail based shop (like mine Sun: Plot 9) or an automated shop using machines/redstone.

If you want to return unused stuff you bought, just ask the shop owner. Maybe they will let you. It's like returning stuff to a real store. They need to register it, and it needs to be allowed in that specific store for that specific item. You don't have self service item return in real life, where you get your money back instantly

It should be allowed. Most servers do it and this one should too. If it did, more people would enjoy it. If you argue you might not want your shop to have that, you can put a sign.

It's the other way around at Simplex. You put signs if you allow reverse shopping in your shop. That's not gonna change, sorry.

Also, imagine having a shop where someone always swap your earnings for items right after the items are sold. You will never have to restock, but you will also never earn a single diamond.

The shopping district is simple.
Normally how it works is:
- If you want to sell an item, you open a shop. - If you want to purchase an item, you go shopping. - And if you want to take a different route such as reverse shopping or stealing, you get banned from the district.
There is a huge difference between returning an item you bought for a refund, and trying to get diamonds someone earned by selling one of your own items at someone's shop.
RETURNING AN ITEM: Example: if I get a 12 pack of soda from Walmart for $3.50 and it's leaking, I can take it back into Walmart and ask for permission for a refund. (Notice how in order to do this: I need to get in contact with the store's management, I can't just take money out of the register. And they have the right to refuse a refund).
REVERSE SHOPPING: Reverse shopping is different than returning an item, because in most cases reverse shopping is like buying a 12 pack for $3.50 from Walmart and trying to return it at a gas station for $6.00 without asking for permission.
Either way with returning an item or reverse shopping, they both involve differing from the normal flow of goods without permission. If a shop owner explicitly gives you permission to restock their shop for them/reverse shop, to return an item you bought, or even to take items for free that's fine. But being sneaky about it isn't going to get you anywhere, because the only reason I could think of for someone not asking is if they already knew that what they were doing isn't allowed.
The shopping district isn't a right it's a privilege, and so if you can't accept how it works and the simple rules that come with it, then maybe it's not for you.
