Wiz if you're interested in finding the toxicity that it has caused, I suggest you look in the #simplex channel and the #pictures-and-videos channel for yesterday. It's all archived there. I believe you will find the results to be disappointing in a community like this. I got called the r-word and got made fun of in chat by people who will remain nameless. If you want to know their names, you just have to look at the logs. This is not okay. Thank you for your input though, we are an open economy.
It's just a shame how toxic people can get. A couple things here. One: Nobody was being toxic due to the elytras or the forum post. It mainly began to turn into who said what. Second: The person who called you the r-word was not a part of the community nor does he make up the whole community. What he said doesn't make the entire community or even just a part of the community bad. Third: Who made fun of you? Because scrolling through the logs not a single person made fun of you. I agree with what Wiz said however we are literally getting an end reset in a couple days which will fix the market. As well as that these "hoarders" as much as it may suck they are well within their rights. They are buying and selling fair and square. Even if it is a not very nice. Well there was at least a lot of hostility towards the player who caused it among the lower ranks of the server. We have reached a point in game where a lot of players do not want to hear stuff about elytra's. It is an open economy and people can do what they want, but let me ask you this: what happens when 2 people only have elytra's and make an agreement to sell them at a very high price, is that fair towards our players? And what does it do to the economy? Not having the oppertunity to find an elytra because the end is fully raided and buying is the only option. I think this will continue for a while, and I dislike the stuff that going on. Creating a monopoly for a item that provides more freedom for exploring areas should not be something you want to achieve just because u want: insane amount of diamonds or achieving a barrel filled with shulkers. It does not justify the outcome of the current situation.

Thank you all for your wonderful support. It brings a tear to my eye, how we can all come together and say that this is something that is not nice. The Simplex community never ceases to amaze me. You're all amazing. I really do hope that this crisis stays remembered in the community consciousness as it should, lest we forget what those people have done to our community.
Thank you so much all <3

As a newcomer to this server, I just have two points of input. The first being that anyone who makes fun of other people being affected by Covid (or any disease/condition for that matter), wishing ill upon another or going as far as wishing death upon people or sending them death threats, should be permanently banned regardless of donator status, rank or time spend on the server. It's not that hard to be civil towards another, and even if you can not be civil, it's really damn easy to not wish death upon people (directly or indirectly). I'm not saying this has happened here as I've not seen this nor do I care to delve through the Discord logs and find evidence (It's not my place to get involved beyond this post), and I take no stance on whether or not it has happened, I'm merely stating that I personally believe that if such an action does not receive a permanent ban as a response, then I'd be really disappointed in this server's moderation team. Secondly, while I've seen the Elytra stance of the staff team being mentioned once on the server (I assume it was from the team as a whole as it was SnuRRe posting in chat), and the response was along the likes of (paraphrased) "We've had item shortages before, they always work out", I can't help but agree with the following statement of Kjortmobile. Put in a hard cap of 200 Elytra's. After that, you shouldn't be allowed to acquire anymore. Any excess must be sold/dumped or should be deleted by the staff and the offending party warned initially, banned for repeated offences with an ever-increasing penalty. Congrats, you became a Capitalist, now go hoard something else.
Myself largely included. I've disabled chat at several occasions already just to avoid reading about the topic - but that in turn raises the question, why do I continue to play on Simplex? Why bother when I just disable the chat out of frustration? I may as well play singleplayer then. Don't get me wrong, I understand both stances of "It's well within the rules" which it is, and the stance of "It's destroying the market, as well as making it impossible for new players to trade in this good." which again it is; but I grow weary of reading about it every single time I login to Simplex. It's not a conversation that's going to blow over, and as such, something needs to be done as it's causing annoyances to many players.
Small edit: Though as a last addition that I briefly forgot during the typing of this post - The end will be reset fairly soon, hopefully, that'll alleviate some of these issues, the chat included.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to this thread, valiantic! I think it's important to get newer players perspective on this issue as well, because it arguably affects them more than well established players. I'm sorry this drama has been your first impression of Simplex - but I can assure you 99.9% of the time things are fine and dandy, we are happy to have you join this awesome community! I think my (and I'm guessing others who have commented above) critiques and raising of concerns do not come from a place of hate towards any players or the server as a whole. I think this shows that we love and care about this server and want to make it the best it can be for everyone. Happy halloween and cheers to an end reset that will hopefully help this all blow over!

As I read my own post back a little later, I might have worded certain things a bit too strong - Namely that my experience on the server has been incredibly welcoming and fun so far. I would certainly agree that the majority of the time the chat is pleasant and the community is respectful and kind towards one another. The Elytra discussion was fortunately not my first experience of the server, else I'd have left already and missed out on the amazing fun the Halloween event had been today, but I imagine for some really new players, the heated discussion may be the one they find themselves in as first impression, being told that Elytra's go for 128 diamonds, which inevitably brings up the line of "because some people hoard them all"; and then the discussion erupts anew in game, with neither party giving up on trying to convince the other one. It's just a real shame when it happens.
While I'm writing this, a thought occurred to me. Would it perhaps not be a good idea to simply reset the End (And possibly the Nether for similar reasons?) at a fixed interval? (Outside of the spawn area itself.) Say every two-three-four months? New players will have a chance to acquire Elytra's if they get lucky timing it, or can otherwise work towards the reset of the End in a (~few) week's time. In the worst scenario, they need to wait a longer period to acquire it themselves - but can then instead focus on trading it with other players as an option, or generous souls will grant them one. Older players simultaneously will be more happy to sell/give them out, where as the few people that do feel the need to incessantly hoard these items, can do so with less of a server impact and more spread out over time.
Everybody wins?
(Oh and happy Halloween!)
