I have just "rehomed" to Jungle Hills and built an aerial wheat farm. The tilled ground in this area all has light level 0 (block and sky) despite torches, daylight, and so on - and it is definitely the tilling that did it (I jumped up and down to revert the ground, and the light level became a normal 15 sky/10 block during the day).
Location is 14404/79/16664 and thereabouts. I presume this is a bug. My understanding is that the fact I have claimed this area does not prevent monster spawning and light level 0 is basically the worst for that - any idea what could be causing this?

Actually this seems to be related to bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-105542 and apparently the light level of the block above it is the relevant part (so that's fine), plus mobs can't spawn on tilled soil anyway. I must just have never noticed before. Please disregard.

as far as i know it is not a bug. mobs can's spawn on soil anyways. the same is true for slabs. because they are not a "full" block they have a light level of 0

^^This, what choochoo2112 said. Less-than-full blocks show a light level of 0. What matters is the light level of the block above them.
