Since I started my skull challege I've been doing PvP more when I'm online and I usually do my challenge on Stonerock or Sandbomb. Among the 5 selectable maps the map still isn't made yet, and I'd love to fight on new battlegrounds for my skull challenge so I made 4 arenas for you all to checkout and vote on which you would like to see on Simplex. I know making these maps doesn't guarentee that they will be made on Simplex I'm just here to advocate them.
The video password is: fight Some info before you watch the video: I go over some basic details at the start then get into what they look like. If you are here to just see what the Arenas look like just watch the first part of the video. The fighting demo with mobs is afterward.

You could (should?) have asked me for the 'official' template for the PvP arena. Would have taken 30 seconds to grab and send you the structure file since it's actually something I saved so that potential future maps could easily be 'plugged into' the PvP arena. Hell, I could also have just sent you the entire PvP Arena itself as well if you wanted.
Some things you should avoid if possible in maps if the intent is to have them switchable: -Lighting. If possible, include no lighting at all. If you must, keep it to a minimum. Light updates are laggy. I removed all the lighting in the modification of the old spawn PvP arena map (SandBomb) for the switchable map arena exactly because of this. -Signs, ladders, and any blocks that are attached to another block and fall off if that block is broken. Good old Mojang fucked loading structures with any such blocks up during the 1.13 snapshots, as well as loading a different structure over a structure with such blocks, and never fixed it. I had to add an extra command block that would replace all ladders with air for SandBomb because of this.
Direct responses to stuff in the video:
1:22 "I actually didn't know that the starting corners are actually just a diagonal. I thought it was actually smoother than that, but I guess not. - Yep. They're straight diagonals but it looks like it has been smoothened out a bit. The magic of different block types and barrier blocks.
1:44 "This is like just enough space for me, to like work with." - I'd actually have liked to have made it slightly bigger, but it's a 32x32x32 area, which is the limit for a structure. I could have used 4 structure files/blocks if I wanted it to be bigger, but 64x64x64 was bigger than I wanted, and even if I went for something between 32x32x32 and 64x64x64 it would still have been a bit more of a pain to manage.
I planned to hold a PvP arena map build comp soon after we upgraded to 1.13 with some combat related prizes as well as the best maps (or possibly a few of them) being added to the selector panel, but I never ended up doing that. Maybe I should sometime. That said though, I'm not sure how many people would really be interested since I don't think it's everyone's cup of tea.
Also, the "?" map is literally an empty map that is the map template. It would actually load in if the button were to be made pressable the way it's currently set up. This was supposed to be temporary as the idea was to add the build comp winner's map there.
As for the maps you've made and showcased here: - Preference, but your build style is definitely not my cup of tea. - I like the idea of the Last Ditch map where you have trenches/underground tunnels. Cool concept. Also deals with lines of sight in more than just the usual horizontal way. - Brickton and ShadowMaker are 'meh' in my opinion. For the most part they're really just a floor with some walls to block lines of sight. There is no charm or theme to them, just a block palette. - Zento is decent but needs some tweaking and prettifying imo. It's just open enough, has an actual theme, obstructions seem just about right, and the inclusion of water is actually great to deal with fire aspect (until you get hit again of course).
If I don't think I'll make a PvP arena map build comp ever happen maybe I'll ask you if you'd like to have a go at making some tweaks to Zento together with me and afterwards (when that's done) add it to the arena. No promises though.
Either way, it's cool to see that someone finally made some maps.
Also, for the love of whatever, please use YouTube next time. DailyMotion's player is shit in comparison, and the 'other videos' that appear on the page are.. weird. Also no password requirements for unlisted videos on YouTube, and you get playback speed modifications, which is great for long videos such as yours here.

I thank you for the long, detailed, and unexpected response Veil, now to my reply.
I didn't ask for the "offical" template because I didn't think of asking for it nor did I think it would be so easily tranferable. If you could directly send the structure file and the PvP arena itself to me over discord that would be awesome. Discord username is: Zanril#2508
Now that you mention what to avoid, like blocks that attach to other blocks like signs, and itemframes, and anything that gives off light such as torches and lava, Zento is the only offender by having glowstone in the stonebrick lamps. I didn't know what wouldn't be allowed so I tried to stick to blocks only and didn't make any multi-level or indoor levels. I was worried that even the water in Zento wouldn't be allowed but the info you gave clears this up.
Bigger arenas would be good for team based or even FFA PvP, just harder to design. It would require a diffrent arena hub too.
You planned a PvP arena build comp but you didn't make it yet?! Well I'm ahead of the compition with these maps...whenever it offically starts...if you ever want it to start.
Although I like Youtube I won't uploading my videos onto Youtube because it requires a Google acount which I refuse to create. I will continue to use DailyMotion, Sorry.
Talking about the Arenas themselves:
General
I knew beforehand that atleast Shadowmaker was going to be bad, but I wanted to see intial reactions about it and the others first before I did any major changes to it.
Brickton & Shadowmaker
I did want make some changes to Brickton because, as it turns out, I didn't enjoy always fighting along the main circular pathway. I went for simple walls to block line of sight for Shadowmaker and Brickton because I wanted to test the layout of the arena itself before I gave it some theme/flavour. Because the blocks used for these two arenas don't have an established theme or idea behind them yet I can be flexible with them. I'm more likely to change the block used for the arena, the name, and/or the layout if I keep it simple first.
Zento Since lighting is to be avoided I can switch out those lamps for something else like statues which shouldn't be a problem
Last Ditch
This is the map I had most fun making and I'd like to see what a ruined version of it would look like. I only hope it doesn't look too busy on the eyes.
Overall I learned a lot from this reply, thanks veil. I'll make more videos as new arenas are created. Any changes I make to existing arenas provide screenshot updates in this thread.
