There is a problem that I noticed after being muted for 10 minutes for apparently saying something "inappropriate."
Punishments are not properly logged, and staff judgement should not be a factor in enforcing a rule, but it is.
How I propose this gets fixed:
More detailed rules
I believe that the rules as they are do not touch up on enough stuff, leave out a lot of stuff, and seem almost hard to follow for more "edgy" people who's humor is more on the darker or more mature side. I believe this should be corrected by having a more detailed rule book, given to all players upon joining as the current one is, that provides more rules for the players to follow, examples of each if necessary, and possibly a link at the end of the book that acts as a captcha to ensure the player read the book.
Remove staff judgement
Another thing I noticed after my mute was up was that staff judgement is a major factor in rule enforcement. This could go wrong for many reasons. First off, a staff member could very easily punish someone for simply doing something they personally do not like. This could include certain swear words, phrases, or other terms that are on the edge but okay to some staff members. Another example would be debating or discussing topics such as politics. Politics could be very dangerous grounds with a rule like this. I don't believe I need to say why. Removing staff judgement and increasing training or simply adjusting it to the new rules proposed could easily fix this issue.
Better punishment logging
One last thing that I don't like is how badly punishments are logged and handled. I was muted for 10 minutes and the only information I was given by the staff who muted me was that something I said was "inappropriate" and that it was a friendly warning. I was wondering why the staff member couldn't have just given a warning in dms or chat instead of muting me for 10 minutes, and where in the rules it says I am not allowed to make inappropriate jokes, but I had mostly been wondering why a direct reason was given. A staff member could very easily reject a ban appeal by making up something that happened to keep their position and to keep the player banned because there is no evidence to back it up. A staff member could change the punishment reason later on and get away with it as well. I propose that this should be fixed by introducing a plugin that logs all punishments and gives the punished player the reason the staff gave, and require that staff give detailed reasons for every punishment. As punishment is primarily for correction so that the offender does not make the mistake again, this would allow the offender to actually know what happened. If other people in chat had not told me what I said that was likely what led to my "warning," I would have never known what I did and would not have changed anything.
Now, I am not saying that all of these should be added exactly as I stated, but I do believe that they would all lead to a better community with less troublemakers and more clear instructions on how not to get banned.
Thanks for reading.
