Not too long ago discord added the feature to stream through their service. Its a great option to either twitch or youtube since all you gotta do to start the stream is press a single button. Sadly, as i recently found out, the Simplex discord server does not allow this feautre.
I'd love to see this feature get added to the Simplex discord as it is very enjoyable. If you're talking to a group of people or only to a single one you can, in addition to talk to them, even let them enjoy your POV of the game they'r playing. And all of this with a single click without even having to leave discord.
When i first suggested this in the discord server someone responded by saying thats its unnecesary and that it'll only cause trouble, but i definitley dont agree with that. To be able to actually share your gameplay instead of only talk about it adds a completley new level of interaction. Its both very useful and fun because the players watching the stream can interact and tell their opinion without the streamer having to constantly tell them what they'r doing. If someone in the call doesnt wanna watch the stream they dont have to either because to even join the stream you have to press a button. That means that players who doesnt want the feature to stream will be completley unnaffected since they have the option to not press that button. There was also the discussion about people starting to stream non pg stuff. I dont see this as a very big problem because its very easy to detect. As soon as someone starts a stream the game/tab they are streaming is shown if you hower over their name. To actually be able to even watch the stream you have to be in the voicecall which means that unless you press the "join stream" button, you wont see anything. Also, the majority of the people on simplex is mature enough to understand that it's not very appropriate. If someone wanted to troll everyone they'd most likley post non pg picture instead of stream non pg stuff.
In conclusion, i think that streaming is something that makes interacting with people on discord a whole lotta funnier and that it should be added on the simplex discord aswell. An easy fix around the "streaming non pg stuff" would also be to allow only a certain role to stream, and that could be handed out by the mods to people that they know are mature enough.

To reiterate for anyone who isn't on the discord or doesn't want to read the entire convo
1. I'm that "someone" who believes it to be an unnecessary feature, and a moderation problem.
2. It seems to be the relative consensus on the moderation team for this to be the case. Veil has echoed these points on the discord
3. If streaming becomes available, more power to everyone who wants it, but personally I don't see it happening or being a good decision.

I dont see the point of not having a convenient feature even if people would stream bad stuff.
Also does it really upset you so much if someone streamed that stuff. Does it really matter, like who the fuck cares.
"wow nudity how original, now my day has been completely ruined". Honestly I dont care if there will be NSFW content by some troll because people will
need to join the vc to actually see what the person is streaming. At max there will be like two people who see the stream so the person who wants to
post innapropriate stuff would just post it in # pictures instead since there would be more of a reaction that way.

I don't see the point to streaming in discord if no one cares enough to watch it.
Also why would there be inappropriate stuff?
From experience, people like to draw other peoples attention to their streams actually ruining communication and interaction.
And what is considered "Mature Enough"?
A way simpler solution is to just have a separate voice chat for people to stream in.
In conclusion this is the best way probably ^ or do like Chlorox said, go somewhere else.

what's easier? deleting an image or going and viewing a stream to see if its nsfw. it's not difficult to create a discord server and stream in there so there is no reason to use simplex's server. it's more of a headache for mods and it's just not worth it

But it moderates itself, like with voice chat: if a player is being rude, using inappropriate language, yelling, or just being annoying then everyone else usually either turns down their volume or reports them. I don't see why streams would be any different. They'd moderate themselves. Only players who chose to join the stream see whatever's going on (and in my experience most don't care to join) and in the rare off chance that there's distasteful stuff in someone's stream, you could just report them. If we go by the logic of "it's hard to moderate cuz it's a lot of work" well then voice chat should be removed too. Which I don't think needs to be the case. Instead of arguing dumb points let's just accept the fact that it's an official simplex discord and the simplex staff have decided not to include streaming as a feature. You shouldn't need any more reasons than that. There's cooler less strict discords, and you can always make your own. Most players don't care enough to join a stream in the first place, so just make a group chat or a private discord channel for the 3-5 players who would actually watch.

Maybe adding some sort of rank requirement so that you would have to actually play for a month or so would be helpful. I've seen many trolls want to stay after playing for a while. If they are just joining to stream their nudity and find out they can't, they either leave or stick around to try the server out.

I don't see the purpose of having streaming on the discord at all. It's just another thing to get in the way of a server designed to be "simple" at its core. I also don't understand why people would watch these streams in the first place. To my understanding, you're free to stream on other platforms and mention it to people (granted, not be annoying with ads in discord). Simplex is a minecraft server, the discord is a way to chat outside of that. I don't see how streaming fits into that. |
