Hi all!
I'm making a new thread about this, as I've published the Simplex 1.0 world download once again, after removing it previously. Got a few requests for it, and I think I have found a better torrent seed host this time.
Some information in this thread will be the same as in the old thread, and some of it has changed.
Our choice of distribution method: Torrent
Why torrent?
- The world files are almost 240GB in size with parts of it compressed. That's a huge file to download all at once.
- Everyone can help distributing this to all players, if they are kind enough to keep seeding after downloading.
- You aren't required to download all files if you don't want to. You can choose what files to download in your torrent client.
A few things
- Most region files for the end dimension has been removed, only the inner part is included.
- The download is split up into two torrent files, to get around a limit of 2MB .torrent file size which some torrent clients have.
- There is a zip-file "Extra.zip" included which contains most files that is not the region files. This will be explained later in this post.
Downloading the torrent
- Install a torrent client of your choice. I currently use qBittorrent (www.qbittorrent.org), but you can use whatever client you'd like.
- Download the torrent files, and open them in your torrent client:
- simplexmc.com/download/Simplex_01.torrent - Contains the overworld region files. Size: 219GB.
- simplexmc.com/download/Simplex_02.torrent - Contains everything else. Size: 19GB.
- Set both torrents to download to the same folder. Doing this will place all files in correct subfolders.
- If you don't want to download the entire world, you can choose which region files to download by selecting or unselecting them in your torrent client. In qBittorrent, you'll find it under the 'Content' tab for the highlighted torrent.
- The region files for the overworld dimension are located under 'Simplex\region\'.
- The region files for the nether are located under 'Simplex\DIM-1\region\'.
- Use the following website to calculate what coordinates corresponds with what region files: dinnerbone.com/minecraft/tools/coordinates/. I would recommend downloading all regions adjacent to the one you want as well.
- To find the coordinates of yours or other players old homes, search this site: simplexmc.com/simplex_1.0_homes/
Unpacking after download
The download contains one zip-file(Extra.zip), which includes the following:
- Advancements files
- Map files
- POI files for overworld and nether
- Playerdata files
- Statistics files
If you want any of this date to be available in-game, be sure to unpack the zip-file directly where you find it, with no extra sub-folders.
- Move the whole "Simplex" folder with all of its content into the 'saves' folder of your minecraft installation. To get to the saves folder, hold down your Windows key and press R, type "appdata" in the Run window, and click on OK. In there, open the Roaming folder, then the .minecraft folder. You will find the saves folder in there.
- This will stop the seeding of the torrent to others who are downloading. If you want to keep seeding, and have disk space for it, copy the folder instead of moving it.
- Launch Minecraft 1.15.2. (It should also work fine with newer Minecraft versions.)
- You should find the world in your single player world list, with the name "Simplex"
If you want to help distributing the world download and have the internet bandwidth and data cap to spare for it, you can keep seeding the world download after it has finished downloading. Doing so would help everyone get the download faster.
Have fun filling up your drives!
