Hello there everyone.
I'm going to be taking a look at the rules of Simplex and give a deeper look at them since they can't go into detail like how I'm going to in this thread. You can find the rules to the server in the room you spawn in. There is the /rules command to recall the rules at any time. Even though that may be more convenient I believe the rules listed on signs at spawn take precedence since they will be the first list of rules you see where as with the /rules command, you need to know about the command beforehand.
This was originally going to be a video on my Youtube channel but after finishing it 90% of the way I decided I didn't like the quality of it and scrapped it. I am instead making it a thread here on the forums and moving on.
On the Simplex forums under the announcement section you will find a thread simply titled, rules.
forum.simplexmc.com/thread/1511/rules
This thread was created by Veilstar to give clarifications on the servers rules and give a place for players to ask questions about them. Here is my problem with this thread and the list of reasons why I'm making this thread.
• Firstly, Unless I told you who created this thread or you were present when this thread was relevant, the only thing you would know is that it was created by someone who deleted their forum account which puts some of the authenticity of the thread into question.
• Secondly The date of creation for this thread is the 23rd of September 2018. That is over 3 years ago. The server was soft reset, and changed ownership since then.
• Thirdly, The thread itself is not pinned in the announcement section of the forums so further comments on the thread are discouraged since comments on old threads is frowned upon commonly on messages boards like this one. Another consequence of the thread being unpinned is, unless you stumbled on it or were told about it on the server or discord, you are not going to find this thing.
• Finally, Some, not all, but some of the clarifications are outdated which I will address but first!
♦ Lets take a look at the first rule and that is: No griefing or stealing, including unclaimed areas.
Griefing is an umbrella term for the intentional destruction or defacing of all things player built. Stealing is taking items that belong to other players for yourself. No Stealing also protects against underpayment or reverse shopping when trading at shops. Borrowing an item and not returning it is also covered by this rule.
Griefing and Stealing is also looked down upon in unclaimed areas which based on the wording would include loot from temples, villages, end cities, and anything else that is not claimed by players but that is not the case. Naturally generated structures with items to loot from them are OK to raid even if there is evidence of someone else already being there but seemingly passing by. When its not okay to raid these is when a player setups in those areas and makes it their own by adding something foreign to it. A partially looted, and unclaimed village with a sugarcane farm would be something I would pass up since the farm is not part of the natural generation of the village. A general rule of thumb is, if there is signs of a player occupation without a claim to tell you that its someone elses don't grief or take any items from it. Claiming an area occupied by someone else this way is seen as a move and will count stealing. With that said don't claim other players builds even if they are unclaimed or abandoned.
♦ Rule number 2, No advertising (servers, websites, etc.)
If you are trying to promote anything that would draw from the player base of Simplex that is not Simplex related moderators will take action against the advertiser. Asking people online to join your realm or partner up for some mini-game on another server is not OK even in private messages.
♦ Rule number 3, No spamming in any way, shape or form.
This is the act of repeating the same letter, sentence, command or anything else over and over again. I've seen staff handle talking to yourself in chat, or asking for help repeatedly unfondly since they view it as spam.
♦ Rule number 4, be respectful to everyone.
Respect is subjective, so how you stay respectful to everyone on this server depends on the players you are interacting with so you have to be adaptable. How someone wants to be regarded may be different than someone else. I make it sound difficult but its really not. Just be nice and friendly to everyone! If you don't have anything nice to say to anyone, don't say it. Actively or passively insulting someone for anything violates this rule. This rule surprisingly includes not just other players but yourself as well since everyone would include you but I haven't see anyone get jailed on the server for hating themselves to the point where they express it in public chat, although I have seen someone get muted for spam because of that. If your casual banter among your friends includes trash talking each other you will provoke staff into muting you even if they understand its normal for people in your social circle to do it. They will simply see the disrepectful part of your banter and nothing else.
♦ Rule number 5, No cheating, hacking, duping etc. of any kind.
This forbids hacked clients and shady techniques that don't seem genuine to find things like diamonds. If its not intentional game design or exploits a bug its not allowed. Its not stated but this includes using the use of bots as well. The general rule of thumb is if you cannot achieve what you are doing with a vanilla client don't use it. Some exceptions that I've seen made are things like Litematica but you cannot use the functionality to insert things into the world. Its primary useful for using the ghost image of a schematic into the world to see where blocks are supposed to go, and minimap mods but with reduced functionality. You are going to have to turn off death locations, the ability to see where caves are, and mob radar. I don't know the extend of minimap mods so don't take that as the full list. In summary, If there anything that would give you an unfair advantage over someone else that doesn't use the mod or that can't be done in the vanilla client don't use it.
♦ Rule number 6, Do not build huge mob farms or lag machines.
What the rule should say is "Don't build anything that would cause noticeable server lag." The server wants to stay at 20 TPS at all times, and having many mobs like farm animals, pets, and villagers lower whats ideal for the server. You'll be visited by staff if you ever do go over the entity limits and will be asked to kill some mobs at your base so the server can run smoothly for everyone. There is a post on the forums going into detail about entities limits which you should check out here: forum.simplexmc.com/thread/2139/rules-restrictions-regarding-entities-important. Regarding redstone machines, staff may disable the redstone somehow or contact you about changing the design so its less laggy. They particularly dislike redstone that is always running like clocks or that activates many things at once. Because of this rule nether portals do not spawn pigmen naturally so farming gold in the overworld is not possible.
Rule number 7, Do no harm others outside of a PvP arena.
If you vote at least once and type /warp pvp or go to the warp section at spawn and step on the PvP warp pad there you will be taken to the End where a floating arena with PvP is enabled insides its bounds. There is also the Grand Arena created by Choo_Imperium which is the only PvP arena outside /warp pvp that enables you to damage players.
Rule number 8, Do not build or claim land close to other players.
Based on the book in the lectern just outside the spawn room the minimum distance you need to be to claim or build near someone else depends on the size of the claim or build. Small is 50 blocks away, Medium is 100, and Large is 150. How you interpret those sizes is up to you. If you want to play it safe always put a 150 block buffer between you claim or build and someone elses. I've seen server staff always bring up 100 blocks but I believe this to be wrong. There are two exceptions to this rule. You can build or make a claim right outside the border of spawn if you want and bases or houses with a friend or neighbor in a player town.
Rule number 9, No AFK machines, fish farms, or auto reconnect.
If you stand in one place on the server and do not left or right click while standing still you will be kicked by the server after 15 minutes. This rule is in place to ensure that everyone online is active and actually playing on the server. This rule unfortunately puts a ban on farms where you hold your mouse down to farm at which makes it AFK-able. Pools of water and a minecart that spins in a circle are not allowed, hell they dont even work, but even then, if you build them its an attempt to try and get past the 15 minite AFK kick timer and staff will recognize that if they are found and remove them. Using a macro to keep you online break this rules, as well as rule 5.
Rule Number 10, No exchanging donations for in-game items.
The way this is worded it only forbids exchanging items but I believe if you wanted to take it further and trade something like a claim over a double skeleton spawner for a donation perk you would still get the attention of staff. This rule affects the /skull command the most since you get your own skull in the form of an in-game item. Skulls in particular are not allowed to be traded except for other skulls which is common practice (skull exchanges) or given away for free.
Rule Number 11, Do not use multiple accounts/alts
This was allowed in the distant past but not any more. If you are playing on this server you play on one account only. Using another account to bypass a jail or ban results in that account being banned. If you lost your account or want to move to another one due to it being lost by a hacker, forgetfulness of your password, or maybe you gave it to someone else, contact staff about it and they can transfer everything from your old account to your new one. How they handle such transfers is case-by-case.
Its not a rule but after rule eleven is this sentence:
Staff has the right to make judgement calls on things not explicitly covered above.
This line is to cover any loopholes or gaps in the rules like the one I just explained with rule 11. Anything that would violate the spirit of the rules will be taken actions against is how I interpret it. All applicable rules also apply to Simplex's Discord server and forums.
Before I wrap up this thread there is just a few more things that are not covered by the rules but I'd like to bring to you attention.
• Do not wear inappropriate skins.
Like one of Hitler or a naked person.
• Scamming players is not allowed.
You are wrong to think deceiving anyone on this server for their belongings is moral on this server.
• Offensive usernames are unallowed.
You will be asked to change your username to something less offensive before you join the server again.
• Not not impersonate or claim to be server staff.
This includes on Discord or on the server itself. Your dishonesty will not be tolerated.
• English chat only.
I've only seen this apply to public chat but it may apply to private messages as well but I'm not sure. Staff cannot moderate public chat if its not in English so any other languages typed in public chat get the player muted.
That's all the rules explained! I hope you make better decisions on the server with the clarity I given you. See you all on Simplex.

Disclaimer!
I am not simplex staff nor have I ever been so take my interpretations as truth only if you agree it is reasonable and follows your common sense. This is my own evaluation and explanation of Simplex's rules as a long time player of Simplex since the 12th of January 2017 (My 5 year anniversary is coming up soon!)♦ Lets take a look at the first rule and that is: No griefing or stealing, including unclaimed areas.
