There was a recent discussion on the server regarding the new requirements for skipping a night, and I wanted to create this to find others opinions on the matter.
As a relatively new player to the server, I don't know what the previous requirements were, but I believe for roughly the last month the requirements for 'sleeping through a night' have been: at least 1 player must be in a bed, and at least 50% of players in the overworld must be in a bed or AFK. Recently this was updated to be: at least 50% of players must be in a bed.
This can appear quite a small change, given that every player can simply keep a bed on them at all times. Thankfully, the /home command already largely deals with the issue of the ever-moving respawn point caused by this but given that over the last 10 years of Minecraft, there have been over 600 items added and the player inventory hasn't increased in size- each slot in the inventory has become all the more precious. This, alongside the fact that it's difficult to negotiate any more than about 4 players sleeping at the same time making it near impossible to skip the night during the server's busiest times has caused issues for many players who are now spending a lot of real-world time, simply waiting for sunrise.
I wonder whether there is enough demand to again change the requirements, and what could possibly be implemented instead.
I hope this post sparks a healthy discussion & finds a satisfying outcome.
All the best to everybody. Stay hydrated- HBWisecrack

Hi, and thanks for your feedback.
For the past 6 years, since the server was founded in 2016, the sleep requirements has been 100%, and skipping the night was close to impossible unless you were almost alone on the server. That it how it has been working in vanilla minecraft, and on Simplex.
About a month ago we decided to increase the chance of skipping the night, by setting the sleep percentage to 50%. Since this no longer required (yet another) plugin to be installed, since a new gamerule was added to minecraft.
At the time of the change, I didnt think much of /afk players being excluded from this calculations entirely, other than it would be a nice thing when someone is truely afk.
Now, a month later, I have realised that almost every time someone asks in-game if someone can sleep, half the server does /afk. That was not my intention at all, when changing the gamerule. This effectively means that an in-game item, a bed, has been replaced by a command, /afk. So I removed the setting that made afk players not count towards the sleep percentage.
We still have a much bigger chance of skipping the night than we've had for the past 6 years, but we do actually have to use a bed to skip the night, which is how vanilla minecraft works. I will probably not change this back to exclude afk players.
If we should lower the sleep percentage even more, that's another discussion. We've had this discussion internally in the staff team already, and most staff seems to agree that 50% is a good number.
I guess this will stay as an open discussion for now. Like, subscribe and leave your comments below 😜

I personally think that lowering the sleep percentage would be a nice change for the server itself. Not by a lot, just a little. 33 percent would be an appropriate number if the staff decided to change the number of needed players to skip the night.
I also don't sleep a ton in the game or really care much about changing it- I'm saying this because I'm sure plenty of people would like a change to this and ends up with positive feedback which I do care about.
