Just not using torches isn't a big deal when just strip mining. The thing is, nearly all xrayers actually use a 'full brightness' cheat or edit the options file to do so instead. It's essentially like having a constant night vision. Anyway, gong around caves mining ore and not using torches is more of a sign that this might be the case as you'd normally not be able to see much at all for far at all, even when holding a torch and having dynamic lighting enabled. You wouldn't get banned for just not using torches though.

Anyway, yes, we can tell the difference between xray and laziness/randomness. There's a clear difference between someone mining directly to a load of diamond ore veins in close proximity hidden behind stone with a direct path from vein to vein (not even stripmining) and someone just making random turns when stripmining. When checking out people's mines (using logblock to see where they are) it's not like we just ban people as soon as we see something is potentially illegitimate. We actually do go through the effort of investigating it properly. In the case of the ban appeal I assume you just read there was absolutely no way they could have just been lucky using random mining patterns given the extremely small amount of stone they actually mined combined with everything I stated in my reply to that appeal.

For what it's worth though, while I do believe I'm personally not one to mistake a legitimate player for an xrayer (especially since I won't ban without being certain), mistakes do happen, and that's what ban appeals are for - getting those mistakes corrected.

yes it was from the apeal i read lol...and ya i were my end rod on ma head and pertty much hug the wall im about to mine lol...thus why lava hits me alot lol. i just wanted to make sure i was being good was all thank you for clarifying

There's a reason it doesn't go past 100% in-game or 1 in the options file - because it's not intended to be used. Night vision potions exist for that.

You have nothing to worry about... You know if you xray or not. Here are my red flags when it comes to xray. If the ore is covered up post mining them and tunnels are filled in with cobble, randomness of the tunnels, you set off antixray (people think the point counter is too low I think it is fine I have seen plenty of people never hit the limit) and I will also watch a suspected xrayed for a while to be 100% sure. The whole end rod thing idk. I am fine with people doing that because honestly there is really no way to stop people from using their game with light level changes. So dont be scared unless you really have a reason to. If you dont xray you won't be banned there are plenty of triggers that don't have anything to do with torches!
