I realise this may sounds like a ridiculous idea, but maybe it's not so ridiculous after all.
Currently when someone steals or otherwise breaks the rules they get jailed. Which ofcourse is fine, everyone needs to follow the rules...
However I feel this punishment may be a bit pointless, essentially jailtime is equal to a ban as you can do nothing in jail, leading to people just not playing for the duration of their jailtime (or in quite some cases rather vocally complaining about the unfairness of the situation).
So I thought, how to punish people so they realise what they did is wrong, but still have them be able to play. In normal life when someone is a first time offender of a minor offence (such as shop lifting as a minor or other minor offences) they get community service here, where basically they have to work a certain amount of hours assisting the government/township is rather boring but usefull things such as picking up garbage or de-weeding public parks.
Maybe this is a better alternative for some of the jailtimes that are now given? As I believe these jailtimes may chase quite some people away from the server (a 4 day jailtime is quite long if you've only been playing a week and don't have a lot to lose).
I dont know how this could be implemented exactly, or what community service could include. DarkShinobu suggested maybe filling up creeper holes. I thought maybe collect things such as wood or other materials required for competition sites.
I simply believe that jailtime, which quite equals a ban in the way people are unable to play at all, may be too harsh for minor offences. And this may prevent a better alternative
